Sound Design w/ Roland System 1M
This course delves into the mysterious world of the Roland System 1M semi-modular synthesizer. A perfect gateway into the world of Modular Synthesis, this powerful instrument is ideal for learning sound design.
While the System 1M includes a vast array of internal routing and modulation options, with the introduction of external Eurorack modulation sources, the device can take on new forms. We will unlock the hidden potential in this tiny monster, so you can take your musical explorations in new and different directions.
Week 1 – Signal Routing in the System 1M, Oscillators, Filters and Amps
Week 2 – Modulation Sources, LFOs and Envelopes
Week 3 – Getting Modular with the 1M
Week 4 – Computer Interaction and Recording, Plugouts and Effects
Class will meet online for 1 hour via live Skype or Hangouts session weekly, at a time determined based on student availability. Your instructor will deliver a 50-55 minute demonstration and lecture, with the remainder of the hour spent answering questions submitted via text chat in the session. Classes are dynamically tailored to the students setup, and start as soon as they are filled.
